Welcome to My Signature Nutrition Blog! Thank you for joining us. In this inaugural post I really hope to lay the groundwork for what you will find here in the future. As you know, nutrition is an integral part of your daily life. Each day you make choices about what to eat, when to eat, how much to eat, where to eat, and perhaps even whom to eat with.
Not to mention the countless ads you are exposed to telling you what foods are smart, what not to eat, why you should eat this over that, that certain foods are good or bad, or even ads blurring the line between food and feelings. Thinking about food some is a normal part of life; thinking about food all day could indicate a problem. Food and nutrition choices can quickly become overwhelming, especially if you are trying to eat healthier, lose weight, eat a certain way because of a new health diagnosis, or recover from an eating disorder. In this blog my goals are to help you establish a healthy relationship with food by:
- Challenging popular food and nutrition rules and beliefs,
- Challenging you to think about your health and nutrition beliefs,
- Introducing concepts of Intuitive Eating, Health at Every Size, and Mindful Exercise.
- Bringing attention to nutrition misinformation,
- Empowering you to make informed, confident decisions related to food and nutrition.
It is obvious that worldwide we currently have a problem with making informed, confident decisions about food and nutrition (and exercise) as in America alone, 66% of the population is overweight or obese while another 10% suffer from an eating disorder. To make it worse, the diet industry is here to capitalize on your confusion. (I must say not all, but some of them.) Did you know that the diet industry is a $40 billion dollar industry? However, don’t despair. There are choices that you can make to create a flexible, healthy realtionship with food, nutrition, and exercise. Change must begin with you, your choice, your decision, and your actions. At My Signature Nutrition, LLC we believe in a philosophy of Intuitive Eating and Health at Every Size, we believe that all foods can fit into a healthy diet with balance, variety, and moderation, we believe that your body is able to best tell you what it needs if you choose to truly listen to it, we believe that food and nutrition can affect your quality of life and level of performance, and we believe that what is most important are your choices about health, including diet (simply what you eat) and exercise, over days, months and years (ie long term). We are here to provide you with guidance; we are here to help you along the way. We will regularly post about various health and nutrition topics and hope that you will join us. We love feedback! Let us know if you have any questions or would like know more about a specific topic.
